Derrynane By MoonlightI took this photo at the beginning of nautical dawn. I wanted the scene to be side-lit by the low full moon to cast the shadows visible on the sand dunes and mountains.
Orion And Taurus Over Derrynane BeachThis photo was taken at nautical dawn at low tide. I have always loved the pattern that the Orion and Taurus constellations make together, and the tide and light being just right enabled me to create this image.
Moonset Over Abbey IslandThis photo, taken at nautical dawn shows the Hunter’s Moon setting over Abbey Island, with “The Channel” and Derrynane Beach in the foreground.
Derrynane MorningThis photo was taken during civil dawn from Derrynane Beach. Abbey Island can be seen on the right.
Moonbow Over DerrynaneI am very grateful to have been able to capture this photo of a rare“moonbow” or lunar rainbow. I was in situ well before dawn in order to photograph the beach by moonlight. Rapidly changing weather conditions and a low full moon combined to give me an opportunity which doesn’t come along too often.
Nautical Dawn At DerrynaneI took this photo at nautical dawn, with Abbey Island visible on the right. I wanted to show the white stars speckling the sky mirrored by the black pebbles on the sand. The encroaching daylight created these colours very briefly to give me a sky better than I could have hoped for.
Moonrise Over DerrynaneThis photo was taken during civil twilight of the Hunter’s Moon rising over Derrynane Beach.
Full Moon Over Abbey IslandTaken just before sunrise, this photo shows the waning Hunter’s Moon over Abbey Island about 90 minutes before setting. After a relatively calm night, the wind is just starting to pick up and make for a turbulent morning.
